City of Vancouver Reveals Plan to Do Nothing to Prevent a 2012 Stanley Cup Riot

Following the 2011 Stanley Cup Riots and the arrest and prosecution of several of the thousands of rioters, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has announced a bold new plan to keep the same thing from happening again: no more “big” celebrations. Robertson’s message? Read the rest of this entry »

PS Vita Wins Red Dot Award for Exceptional Design Quality

The very first line of my PS Vita review described the thing as a beautiful piece of hardware — no matter what you think of its performance or its price or whatever, you can’t deny it looks great. Read the rest of this entry »

Archer Season 3 In Review

Archer season 3 had it’s share of highs and lows. While generally a great show, I keep on thinking that the concept of the show is a lot funnier than the show itself. It’s made by Adam Reed, and it lacks the off-the-cuffness of his earlier work Frisky Dingo. The humour occasionally becomes Arrested Development-esque, but never fully goes all the way. There are, to be honest, lots of jokes that just fall flat because they just aren’t funny. Read the rest of this entry »

The New Tobacco: Video Games

It’s old and somewhat insignificant news, but Frank Wolf (VA) and Joe Baca (CA) of the US House of Representatives want to force all games not rated for Early Childhood to carry a “health warning label”, similar to cigarettes, that would read:

“WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behavior” Read the rest of this entry »

Mass Effect 3 Ending Patch

This is starting to become old news, but Bioware has been put on the defensive lately by people having played Mass Effect 3 and been dissatisfied with the ending. Having not beaten the game myself (blasphemy!), I don’t know how much I can argue the point, but I do think it’s gotten pretty ridiculous so far. Read the rest of this entry »

The Walking Dead Season 2 in Review

If you haven’t pieced it together yet, I really don’t like The Walking Dead. It’s not that good a TV show that receives a lot of undue attention, hype, and love. Google “The Pletteau”

One of the great perks to having any kind of website is being privy to the search terms people use to find you. They can give you a good idea of what posts are read often (Goon and Skyrim both being two popular terms here at The Pletteau) and what posts never are. They are also chock full of lawlz. For your benefit I have compiled the best here so that we may lawl together:

The First Contact Scale of Awesomeness

The other day I was thinking about things that are awesome; in particular, the movie Star Trek: First Contact. It is without a doubt the greatest Star Trek film ever made and certainly one of the best films ever to grace the silver screen. It had everything: Klingons, Borg, Patrick Stewart, James Cromwell, Jonathan Frakes, etcetera.

Mass Effect 3

From the get-go, Mass Effect 3 had a tall order to fill: to be better than Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 was a brilliant game and an excellent follow-up to Mass Effect… itself, a brilliant game. That isn’t to say each isn’t without its faults: Mass Effect had its fair share of irritating gameplay elements and annoying missions. Read the rest of this entry »
